The Island of Love

Watamu

The Malindi-Watamu Nature Reserve, a 16 kilometer stretch of barrier parallel to the coast, was established in 1986 and since then all forms of animal and plant life included in the reserve and in the Marine Park have been rigorously protected. Thanks to the coral reef and the phenomenon of the tides in this stretch of coast you can take beautiful walks to discover wonderful places, such as the Island of Love, so called for its splendid heart shape. The peculiarity of this small island and its beach is that it appears and disappears based on the rising and falling of the tides. The tides are a natural phenomenon in which the ocean covers and uncovers a large strip of beach every day from the shore to the first coral reef and depending on the phase of the moon.

For those looking for a beautiful seaside spot in Kenya, this excursion is ideal. Once you reach the largest island you can go up to its climate, from where you will have a wonderful view of the atolls of fine white sand that surround it, the coral reef and the immense beauty of the Indian Ocean. We advise you to bring rubber shoes with you as you will be walking on dead coral and rock.
